What BallotWizard is
- A free voter guide for Salt Lake, Davis and Utah counties, Utah, for the November 3, 2026 general election. It is not a government site and not an official ballot. If anything here differs from your official ballot, your ballot is right; your county clerk can answer questions about it.
- Suggested picks are information to help you decide, built only from your own answers and official records, each with its reason. You make every choice. Nothing here is legal advice.
- No candidate, party, PAC or campaign can pay to appear, to change a word, or to change an order. There are no ads.
Your street
- We never ask for your house number. You enter only your street and city (or ZIP); if you type a house number anyway, your browser removes it before anything is sent, so your address never leaves your device.
- Your street and city are sent once to the State of Utah's official road and district maps (hosted on Esri's ArcGIS service, in the request body, not the web address), only to find the districts along your street. Those services may keep their own request logs. If your street crosses a district line, you pick which part you live on, on your own device; that choice is not sent.
- We don't store or log your street, and it is never saved in your browser. You can use just your ZIP code instead, though some local races may then be left for you to pick.
Your answers and picks
- Stay anonymous (the default): kept only in this browser tab and cleared when you close it (your browser's "reopen closed tab" can bring it back).
- Remember on this device: kept in this browser until you clear it or switch back. It never leaves your device.
- Save to an account: only if you choose it. You sign in with a passkey on your own device (fingerprint, face or device PIN) or with Google. With Google we ask only for Google's account number for you (the "openid" permission): never your name, email or photo, and we keep only a scrambled form (a hash) of that number. We never ask for a name, email, phone number or password. We store a random account number, your passkey's public key (which is not a secret) or that hash, and one save of your answers (including the values you chose and your views on the issues), districts and picks, encrypted with a key kept separately from the database. We use it only to give it back to you when you sign in.
- Delete it any time with "Delete my account and saved picks" on your ballot. That removes the account, its passkey record and the save at once; our hosting provider's database backups can hold deleted data for up to 30 days before it is gone for good. Otherwise your save is kept until you delete it.
- We don't sell, share or rent anything. We don't use ad trackers. We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are used; it sets cookies and sends Google your IP address and the pages you view, never your street, picks or values. The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which handles the web traffic, and its typefaces come from Google Fonts, so Google sees your IP address when the page loads. For signed-in voters only, we keep a short-lived counter tied to a scrambled form of the IP address to stop abuse, never the IP address itself. Visitors without an account never contact our account server, unless they send feedback (below).
- Feedback ("What should we research next?"): only if you press Send. We keep the words you typed and the date, nothing else: no account, address, answers or picks. It goes through the same abuse counter. We use it to decide which issues to research next.
Your vote stays yours
- Your picks card says "Not an official ballot." It records what you planned, not how you voted, and BallotWizard has no way to show anyone how you voted.
